StorySLAM:Live Episode 02
“It was such a luxury to be able to just sit and listen. I realised how much I love words!”
Just one of the comments on the evening of stories that was StorySLAM:Live 02. All ten reading slots were filled last night, and what a brilliant evening it was. Thanks to all our entrants, the event would be nothing without your fantastic contributions. We had a wide selection of stories; written in very different styles. These ranged from poignant ’stream of conciousness’ pieces – watch out for Jean-Michel Mbala and his ‘Who am I? Is it you?’ in the People’s Choice – to the delightful winning entries penned by Edward Phillips and Lizanne Davis.
Yes, that’s right, we had a tie again! Judges Emma Hewett (Director Spread the Word) and Jenneba Sie-Jalloh (Novelist and Creative Writing Tutor), could not choose between Ed’s thrilling ‘A Cat’s Whisker’ and Lizanne’s strong narrative voice in ‘Canning Town’. The standard of entries was very high and made for an enjoyable evening for all.
Thanks again to Charlie Dark for his unique hosting, it just wouldn’ t be the same without him and his humourous encouragement. He makes everybody feel welcome and at ease.
We’ve got a bit of a gap before the next events at The Albany, although the guest artists are certainly worth waiting for . Laura Dockrill of ‘Ugly Shy Girl’ fame and Polar Bear, whose latest piece is an innovative ’spoken film’ called Return, will be inspiring the proceedings in March and May 2010. (see the events page for details)
In the meantime keep watching this space for news of any StorySLAM:Live specials and of course to vote in the Peoples Choice Virtual Slam. We will have the videos of the entries from StorySLAM:LIVE 01 on-line very soon and 02 early in the New Year. You’ll be able to watch the entries and vote for your favourite as well as relive the experience all over again
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the evening and how we can help you develop your writing. One idea is to run on-line ’surgeries’, what do you think?
Thanks again to all who have helped make StorySLAM :Live such a great success and hope to hear from you soon.
